Custom attributes for taxonomy classifications / nodes

Custom attributes for taxonomy classifications / nodes

Portfolio Performance supports custom attributes for several entity types, which makes it possible to maintain additional metadata in PP and use it in external reports or tools.

Taxonomy classifications / nodes currently seem to be an exception: there is no way to attach custom metadata to a category itself.

It would be useful if taxonomy nodes could support custom attributes in the same or a similar way as other PP objects.

A main use case is using Portfolio Performance as the source of truth not only for portfolio data, but also for metadata consumed by external reporting or calculation tools.

For example, a rebalancing tool could read an attribute from the taxonomy node:

rebalancing_policy = sell_only

For a category such as “Real Estate”, this could mean that positions in this category may be reduced when overweight, but no additional purchases should be made when the category is underweight.

Other possible use cases include target constraints, minimum or maximum allocations, reporting flags, external IDs, comments, strategy metadata, or other user-defined properties.

The important part would be that these attributes belong to the taxonomy classification itself rather than to an individual security or to the assignment of a security to the taxonomy.

This would close a gap where additional metadata can be maintained for many PP objects, but not for taxonomy categories, and would make taxonomies considerably more useful as an integration point for external reporting and automation.
