I guess “I have ahd enough” and have decided to reach for help.
It has happened multiple times in recent months, so I must be doing something really wrong.
what happens is that out of nowhere when I open the windows desktop application, the file does not have the last transactions that I entered before and I have to go figure out what did I do… what is missing… etc…
Because it has happened a few times already, I started to click SAVE multiple times, as to ensure that all my transactions were saved, but not even this has worked because today (the last example of this unfortunate situation), when I open the App and checked the file, it did not have my last transactions
has anyone gone through this in the past?
can this be fixed (assuming I am not “at fault”) somehow with any trick, i.e. SAVE AS, etc…?
Many thanks everyone. I don’t how better to describe this issue. It is very puzzling to me because clicking on SAVE should work very straightforward.
Which OS? Edit: Now I have seen it is windows. Which version?
Where is the file saved? On a local partition? Somewhere in the cloud?
Which extension has your file?
I think I’m the wrong person to give a good answer. I stopped using Windows a long time ago because I don’t think it’s any good. And I stopped using Dropbox a long time ago for the same reason.
What I seem to remember is that it would be better not to have spaces in file and folder names in Dropbox.
Many Thanks — I’ve moved the file to a local non-synced folder and will monitor if the issue persists. Also, I have deleted spaces from the file name (simplify it a lot).
There is actually no error log: what keeps happening is that this morning I opened the file I had worked on last week and, once more, not all the transactions I had entered were there… it has happened so many times that I don’t know what else to do, to be honest
Since another PP user suggested last week, I changed the location of the files from a dropbox folder to this one: C:\Users\tiago\PortfolioPerformance
At the same time, I deleted all the spaces I had in the name of the file.
I changed it to “GlobalWithRealEstate” and then, out of real scare of not saving all the work, I saved as “GlobalWithRealEstate1”. You can see both of them in the screenshot
Funny is that the software itself keeps generating multiple backup versions as per the screenshot attached… (look at all the backup files generated after the only two I saved)
What is your process of saving the current status of your portfolio?
Just asking because I never had any issues, if I confirmed to save the current file before closing PP. But what happened to me was for example that I kept running PP over night and then Windows decided to make an update an restart the computer.
Is there a specific reason to use the old XML format? If not, the newer binary format is more robust and also smaller in size. In a different thread it did help a user to perform the sync with his cloud service, because the XML took to long.
I don’t think the app was installed in that directory path. I must have messed up with something previously. I have reinstalled and now it looks like it matches what you entered. I need to monitor how it will behave from now on.
