But when I look at the Securities report the same transaction has been revalued to £19,139.90 - 1.35x the original value - which equates to the GBP/USD exchange rate)
I then selected the different options and as you can see the first entry, the entry for ‘Yahoo SHIP.L’, is wrong. The quote is for USD, but the currency is set to GBP. The other 3 options are correct.
So I decided to delete the Securities account for Tufton Assets, then recreated it from the SHPP.L listing. I then manually entered Delivery Inbound transactions for each of the 3 accounts:
This time the values are correctly stated in the Statement of Assets. BUT…the total value of the 3 transactions is showing as a capital gain in the Performance report (for the period from May 19th 2026 - the date of the Delivery Inbound transactions:
Unfortunately, I don’t have any personal experience with PP’s CSV import, so I can’t offer you a solution on how to get everything right with just one import.
If I were in your situation, I would proceed as follows:
Create everything in PP via CSV import as you have been doing.
Identify the incorrect entries and delete those few transactions & securities.
Manually create the problematic securities and subsequent transactions yourself.
This way, you’ve already set up most of the transactions automatically, which makes things easier, and you’ll also learn some important basics for future transactions in PP.
I wish you the best of luck with PP. Personally, I can’t imagine investing without this tool anymore, but I understand that getting started with a large portfolio might seem daunting. Fortunately, I started using PP right at the beginning of my investing journey about six years ago.
Thank you - that sounds like good advice. That is pretty much the situation that I have stumbled into, with the problematic holdings being deleted and then re-created manually.
It looks as if there is no good solution for the UK Gilts, as there does not seem to be a usable source of quotes for these. I guess I will need to manually update these prices every time I want to get a performance update?
It shows a value at the start of £620.05 (due to the Quote having a value of 0.00905). At the end it is corrected to £62,005.17, with the Quote being restored to its correct value of 0.905
It will give you always at least the past 30 days of historic quotes. So if you open PP at least once a month, you are good to go. If you need longer time period, you can create a free account with ariva website and download the desired time period as csv and import the missing quotes in PP.
Thanks so much for that. I can use the same approach for all of my UK Gilt holdings by substituting the relevant ISIN in the URL. That’s a great solution!
Ok I deleted the Tufton Assets account and replaced it with a GBX from the built-in quote provider. I then manually re-entered the Delivery (Inbound) transactions. They are now no longer reported as capital gains.
But…most of my UK gilt holdings which I had similarly deleted and manually re-created the transactions for are now showing as capital gains instead. Plus their value in the Statement of Assets has been multiplied x100,
To trace what’s happening I deleted one of the UK Gilt holdings (TG27) and associated transactions and re-entered them manually. I chose the built-in quote provider for the security. There were no historical quotes showing when I created the security.
So following this exact process seems to get me pretty much to where I need to be for my UK Gilts, although I’d be curious to know why the price seems to be recalculated as soon as a new transaction is entered.
I should add that the capital gain didn’t correctly reflect the difference between the valuation when the transaction was entered (35,898.12) and the revaluation on the Statement of Assets (35,987.43). The actual capital gain should have been 89.31, but it was reported as 37.22 in the Performance report
