Hi everyone,
I can’t start PP on my new PC (it worked and works just fine on my previous machine, a windows laptop). I am trying to start the PP windows desktop application.
1 - first, it showed it needed a java version. I went online to the java website and downloaded the latest jave version
2 - now, it doesn’t show that but it shows that an “error has occurred . see the log file…” - will attach the pop-up window that includes that.
Uploading: image.png…
Uploading: PP windows app start error message.jpg…
Any ideas on what should I do?
Many thanks everyone

Hi @watanabix,
for whatever reason your images weren’t uploaded. So it is hard to say what is going wrong.
Keep in mind that Java and the application itself depend on the chip architecture. Did you switch from Intel to AMD and that mayby is the problem?
You also just simply download the application itself. The application is storing nothing relevant - as long as your data file is somewhere in “My Documents” or similar locations.
Hi Andreas,
Thank you for trying to help. I have Intel in the desktop
Please see if this file now can be open.
If it can’t, this is the message:
An error has occurred. See the log file
C:\Users\tiago\AppData\Local\Programs\PortfolioPerformance\configur ation\1746639414060.log,
Thank you again.

Hi @watanabix
Unfortunately, your upload cant be opened. If you want to upload an imaga or file in this forum, use the red marked icon while writing a new post and dont edit anything in the text which will show up after uploading:

But if this image is only showing the information “An error has occurred. See the log file” then you dont have to upload this image. You should upload the log file “1746639414060.log” instead. This log file contains info why the programm isn`t working for you.
Hello and thank you for trying to help.
I was able to locate the file, which was saved within an hidden folder.
This is the log file referenced in the opo-up error message:

Not sure what to make of this to be honest… if anyone can give me hand her or has gone through a similar issue, it would be very appreciated.
Hi @watanabix
Thanks for this error log. I`m not a developer, just a user.
To me it looks like you have installed a 32-Bit Windows operating system, this will not work with the current versions of Portfolio Performance, since it requires a 64-Bit operating system.
Hello PP community,
So I double checked and:
- I do have the Windows 64-bit version installed
- I did download the Java version you recommended and installed it successfully
I had to download again PP (renamed the installation folder to PortfolioPerformance2) because the previously installed PP version still did not run (generated the same error log).
Does anyone know how to uninstall the previous PP version. I clicked on uninstall.exe but I think it did not work, at least I still see the PortfolioPerformance folder. I just want to get rid of that first folder.
Thank you again. It was very helpful and it looks like I can now use PP in this new machine.
It’s resolved. I restarted the pc and then was able to delete the “older” folder.
